What should I bring with me when I am prom dress shopping?
Many of you are probably wondering if there is anything that you need to bring with you whilst searching for your prom dress! The answer to this is no, there is nothing that you necessarily need to bring with you, but we definitely do advise that you bring a pair of high heels with you to try on with the dresses. This helps to give you a more realistic view of what the dress is going to look like on the day of your prom and it will also help to see if you need any alterations to the dress length. We have found with many of our prom customers that a dress can be hard to picture if it is quite long, so as soon as a pair of heels is added to the look, it completely changes it!
Who should I bring with me when I am prom dress shopping?
This is always a difficult one as sometimes, too many opinions can confuse you but at the same time, you want to make sure you have made the right decision and all of the important people in your life love your prom dress! We do normally suggest to try and limit the amount of people especially if you are shopping at peak times, as it can get very busy in the shop and there will be limited space at the changing rooms. We do advise to always bring someone with you as it does help to get a second opinion! If you are under 18 we do ask that you bring a parent/guardian with you when trying on the dresses.
Most prom girls tend to favour mum and sisters, (the older sisters give the best opinions and the younger sisters can’t wait for it to be them shopping for their prom dress!) We know that Grandmas and Aunties love to come along to help choose and Dads are always great for that last opinion, especially if he is paying!
We know that many families treat prom dress shopping as a special family outing and so, we love seeing everyone’s different opinions, but it is important to remember that your opinion matters most and you have to make sure that you go with the dress you love the most, even if that means one family member or friend doesn’t love it as much as you – it is YOUR dress!
How will I know which style is right for me?
At the store, we have hundreds of different styles and colours and so, we normally recommend that you try on a good range of different colours and styles first, as this will help you to get more of an idea of what you do and don’t love!
As you try on, you will start to realise that there are some styles that you like more than others, and colours that suit you and ones that you are not too sure of! Here at The Dress Studio, we have an excellent customer service team to help you every step of the way to find the right dress. It may take longer than you anticipate to choose the perfect one but do not worry, we are exceptionally patient and will always try our best to make sure you leave the store with the dress of your dreams!
How will I know what size is best for me?
This is always a difficult part of finding your prom dress as the dresses fit so differently to what you would normally wear on a daily basis! We know that many of our prom girls are jeans and t-shirt kind of girls, as we are too! So, knowing what size you are going to be in a long evening style dress can be difficult! But, do not worry, that is why we are here to help! We have the store set out in size order and so, we can point you in the right direction of where to start looking, we normally base this on what sizes you roughly take in your normal every day clothes and then we go from there!
Many of our dresses are in american sizes, so this can sometimes makes it even harder. The american sizes are roughly two sizes smaller than a UK size, so for example, if you are normally a UK 10 we would recommend for you to start trying with US 6, if you were a UK 12 then the best option to start with would be a US 8. It is important to remember that the dresses fit so differently depending on the material, the style, the designer and even down to where the zip is placed! So, you could be one size in one designer and style and a completely different size in something else, it varies so much! But, our experienced team are always on hand to advise which is best for you! We stock all sizes from a US 00 (UK 2-4) up to a UK 30 and so, we like to make sure we have something for everyone!
When should I start looking for my prom dress?
Is it too early to start looking for my prom dress? Definitely not!! We always suggest to prom girls to start looking for their prom dresses as soon as possible. We recommend that from September is the best time to start looking for dresses, this is when we start to get the bulk of our prom collections. We know that prom dress shopping is very competitive, once the new styles are gone, they are then fully sold out so, starting the hunt early is the best option! Many of our customers are surprised when they visit the store in March and discover that a style has already sold out!
At The Dress Studio, our prom promise to you is that we do not sell the same dress to the same high school so, the sooner you come in and choose your dress the better, as no one will then be able to have the same dress from our store! This also means that, the longer you leave prom dress shopping, the less choice you may have!
Our busiest month is January and the store can become quite crowded at this time. However, in the months before Christmas, the shop is completely quiet and we have the same stock in that we would in January and so, we definitely advise that you to make the most of this peaceful time and look at prom dresses before Christmas.
Most importantly, getting your prom dress ticked off the list early means you are not going to be distracted later on in the year searching for your perfect dress, meaning you are free to concentrate on exams and revision!
