When should I start looking for my prom dress?
The main thing to remember is that it is never too early! We always suggest to our prom customers to start looking for their prom dresses as soon as possible.
Even though we stock a large range of different designers such as Sherri Hill, Jovani, Mac Duggal, Pia Michi and many more! We do not tend to do duplicates of each style and so, once a style has sold, it has gone! The biggest mistake can be trying something then coming back a month later, as the style will probably have sold, and we would hate for you to be disappointed! We suggest you start the hunt early, as we do know our prom customers are very on the ball, they seem to be getting earlier and earlier each year, crazily enough!!
We recommend that from roughly the end of September/October is the best time to start looking for dresses. You may think that is too early but we have already been receiving some of brand new 2019 collections over the past few weeks and at this time (October) we will start to receive the bulk of our brand new collections (they are UNREAL). Prom dress shopping is very competitive and so once the new styles are gone, they are then fully sold out!
The best thing about getting your prom dress from The Dress Studio is that we do not sell the same dress to the same high school so, the sooner you come in and choose your dress the better, as no one will then be able to have the same dress from our store!
This is particularly great if you are based in Warrington like we are, because that means you will not have to worry about being in the same dress as anyone in your school! Even if you travel to us from Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, or even as far as Scotland, we will still make a note of your school and which dress you have, JUST in case anyone else from your school visits us – like you have!
Our busiest month is usually January and the store can become quite crowded at this time. In the months before Christmas, the shop is completely different and much more quieter and we have the same stock in that we would have in January – so, we advise you to make the most of this peaceful time and look at prom dresses before Christmas if you can!
What if I don’t know what style of dress I want?
First of all, we have hundreds, (and I really do mean, hundreds!) of different styles and colours and so, what we normally recommend, is that you try on a good range of different colours and styles first, as this will help you to get more of an idea of what you do and don’t love!
As you try on, you will start to realise that there are some styles that you like more than others, and colours that suit you and ones that you are not too sure of! Here at The Dress Studio, we have an excellent team who can help you every step of the way to find the right dress, consider us as your very own personal shoppers! It may take longer than you anticipate to choose the perfect one but do not worry, we are exceptionally patient and will always try our best to make sure you leave the store with the dress of your dreams!
We stock every colour (in the rainbow), style – from super glitzy fishtail to very plain fitted and all sizes! We stock from a size US 00 (UK 4) to UK 30!
How will I know what size is best for me?
This is always a difficult part of finding your prom dress as the dresses fit so differently to what you would normally wear on a daily basis! We know that many of our prom girls are jeans and t-shirt kind of girls, as we are too! So, knowing what size you are going to be in a long evening style dress can be difficult! But, do not worry, that is why we are here to help! We have the store set out in size order and so, we can point you in the right direction of where to start looking, we normally base this on what sizes you roughly take in your normal every day clothes and then we go from there!
Many of our dresses are in american sizes, so this can sometimes makes it even harder. The american sizes are roughly two sizes smaller than a UK size, so for example, if you are normally a UK 10 we would recommend for you to start trying with US 6, if you were a UK 12 then the best option to start with would be a US 8. It is important to remember that the dresses fit so differently depending on the material, the style, the designer and even down to where the zip is placed! So, you could be one size in one designer and style and a completely different size in something else, it varies so much! But, our experienced team are always on hand to advise which is best for you!
Is there anything I need to bring with me when I am prom dress shopping?
You are probably also wondering if there is anything that you need to bring with you whilst searching for your prom dress! The answer to this is no, there is nothing that you necessarily need to bring with you, but we definitely do advise that you bring a pair of high heels with you to try on with the dresses. This helps to give you a more realistic view of what the dress is going to look like on the day of your prom and it will also help to see if you need any alterations to the dress length. We have found with many of our prom customers that a dress can be hard to picture if it is quite long, so as soon as a pair of heels is added to the look, it completely changes it!
I think I have covered most of the main points with regards to the all important shopping experience, but if there are any other questions that you may have, please do not hesitate to contact me!
